Ed from Abtrac

Edward O'Leary
Director and CEO

Hello,

This March at Abtrac we are reflecting on what makes us great!
We're showcasing one of my favourite reports - Actual vs Budget. If you manage projects by task, I highly recommend adding this one to your list.

This month we also celebrate World Engineering day and Global Surveyors day. Both disciplines have been integral to the development of Abtrac's project management features and are a big part of the Abtrac community.
I'd also like to acknowledge a crucial component of our team, the women of Abtrac. It's International Women's day tomorrow, you can read an interview with Shereen from our development team below.

Best wishes,

Ed

FROM THE KNOWLEDGEBASE

Know how each stage of your project is progressing

Do you check your team's targets regularly, or just at invoicing time?
Do you tweak your stage estimates, or is the formula the same every time?

Here's how to use your Abtrac Actual Vs Budget reports to get a better idea of how your project stages are progressing, and when a budget blowout is on the horizon.

World Engineering Day

A shout out to all engineers using Abtrac!

Engineers are the ones who bring technology to make our lives simpler, to bring comforts and to bring ease.

On 4th March 2023, we celebrated World Engineering Day to acknowledge the contribution of the world’s engineers for a better, sustainable world.

This month at Abtrac we are proud to celebrate the  contingent of women who give our business (and your software) a distinct advantage

Shereen from Abtrac

Shereen Fathima
Senior Software Engineer

Meet our team

Get to know our senior software engineer Shereen Fathima, one of the creative forces behind Abtrac and a shining star for other women in IT!

Tell us three items on your bucket list.
A trip to Europe
Building a house in my motherland Sri Lanka
Creating a charity foundation for poor kids in Sri Lanka

How would you describe your job and its responsibilities to small children?
My job is fun. It’s like a rollercoaster. Working as a team will gives you a better idea of people and you will love it and live with it.

You’re a vital part of the Abtrac development team, but that’s considered somewhat unique – there’s still a lack of gender diversity in IT. What led you to choose a career in STEM?
When I was around 12 years, I remember my Dad bought a computer. I didn't have any computer knowledge at that time, but I remember being excited to have a turn.

I’m a person who likes to learn new things, so I kept trying to do experiments - which led me to get more interested in computing. I like logical thinking and problem-solving.

In addition to that, I always wanted to achieve something big in my life.

My career as a developer helped me to enhance my creativity and innovation which I really enjoy.

I think women are the best at multitasking, creativity and managing. It’s important we are seen and represented in STEM professions.

Which woman would you consider to be one of your role models and why?
Muniba Mazari.
She is Pakistan’s first Goodwill Ambassador to UN Women Pakistan, an artist and an activist.
She couldn’t walk after a car accident and was abandoned by her husband, but her braveness did not let her down. She is a motivational speaker and adopted a child.
Her story tells me that you can change the way you live no matter what happens.
