Edward O'Leary, Managing Director

Edward is a recognised authority on the management of professional services businesses. He has a well rounded appreciation of IT, business management processes and controls, and of course, business software knowledge.

He communicates this in a very practical style so it is easily understood. He is often asked to present seminars to professional groups, by their various institutes, and by specific firms. He enjoys addressing topics around his breadth of expertise.

Formerly from accountants Ernst and Young, Edward co-founded Abtrac the company in 1990 with his wife who is also his business partner. He remains the principle architect of the Abtrac software suite, and drives its ongoing development and direction.

Edward is married to Pamela, and has three grown up children. His interests include IT and business management. When he can, he will take time out of his schedule to go to the gym. Edward also has a passion for "mucking around in boats", especially sailing.

Pamela O'Leary, Marketing Director

Pamela co-founded the company with Edward in 1990. For Abtrac's first few years she was a silent partner, as she was managing a chain of clothing stores which she and Edward had also founded. As the potential of Abtrac became increasingly obvious, Pamela brought her marketing skills to focus entirely on Abtrac, quitting "the rag trade" in favour of software. Since she has been on board full time Abrac has flourished, growing from Auckland, to embrace all of New Zealand as its market.

And in 2005 Pamela launched Abtrac into Australia.

She has a significant input into the development, and the look and feel of Abtrac. She brings to bear her pragmatic common sense, and of course she receives first hand most valuable feedback from all her numerous marketing contacts.

Pamela is even more of a gym junkie than her husband, attending classes or personal training sessions several times a week.

Marc Cleveland, Senior Consultant

Marc has been with Abtrac for some years, having previously worked as a software developer and consultant with clients in New Zealand, Australia and the USA. He brings to Abtrac a mature client centered approach. To many Abtrac users he is their first point of call, as their trusted front line support friend. When not on support Marc is intimately involved in the ongoing development of Abtrac. He also does client installations and training sessions with new and established Abtrac users, usually on their premises. Marc is very effective in applying his natural interpersonal skills with his combination of business training and IT knowledge.

Like all Abtrac people, Marc has a significant input into its development, and its look and feel. His contributions are based upon his own ideas, plus all the valuable feedback he receives from his client support and on-site work.

Marc also enjoys the gym and swimming. But with the arrival of his new daughter, much of his time is now taken up as he works on his role as a proud and helpful father.

Ashly Smith, Technical Manager

Ashly joined Abtrac from the world of education where he taught papers in a range of IT and business topics, through to degree qualifying level. He moved to bring his educational skills, IT skills and business skills to Abtrac, where many current clients now look on him as their reliable and always patient Abtrac support friend. Ashly's breadth of IT knowledge and his user friendly disposition make him an invaluable member of the Abtrac team. In particular he makes a significant contribution towards guiding the future development of Abtrac. His IT skills are ensuring Abtrac is being developed using the latest stable technology, fitting in with Abtrac's strategy of a package you never need to replace.

Ashly enjoys the gym and volleyball in which he excelled. He has represented South Africa in volleyball and after emigrating he played for the Auckland regional team with distinction. Ashly is married with 2 school-age children, and naturally, much of his spare time is devoted to them, and their various activities.

Jennifer O'Leary, Office Adminstration Manager

Jennifer joined Abtrac in late 2004 on a short break from the pressures of the hospitality industry where she was the administration manager of a busy function centre and restaurant. Four years later she is still with the company and enjoying working in the family firm. Though she does admit to missing an in-house chef around lunch times!

Managing the administration and accounts for both the New Zealand and Australian offices of Abtrac keeps Jennifer quite busy. It also means she is very much a hands-on user of Abtrac. In this regard Jennifer will often be your first contact when you call our support team. Her understanding of what practice managers need from Abtrac is appreciated by many core users of the software.

A former gym junkie, Jennifer now builds her muscles wielding a hammer most weekends, working on a very small house she has purchased that is in need of a lot of attention.

Jennifer has a degree in Geology with post-graduate papers in geotechnical engineering. She has also studied accounting and is well familiar with the tax requirements of SME's in both New Zealand and Australia.
